Coronary Angioplasty in Turkey

Discover Coronary Angioplasty in Turkey

Coronary angioplasty is a procedure used to widen narrowed or blocked coronary arteries to improve blood flow to the heart muscle. It involves inserting a thin catheter with a balloon at its tip into the narrowed artery and inflating the balloon to compress the plaque buildup and restore blood flow. In some cases, a stent (a small mesh tube) may be inserted to help keep the artery open.

The Angioplasty Procedure:

Before the procedure, you’ll receive anesthesia and medication to help you relax. The healthcare team will also clean and numb the area where the catheter will be inserted, usually in the groin or wrist. A thin, flexible catheter is inserted into an artery and guided to the blocked coronary artery using X-ray imaging (fluoroscopy). Once the catheter reaches the blockage, a small balloon at the tip of the catheter is inflated to compress the plaque against the artery walls, widening the artery and restoring blood flow.

In some cases, a stent may be inserted into the newly widened artery to help keep it open. The stent is expanded using the same balloon used for angioplasty and remains in place permanently.

Is angioplasty safe?

Coronary angioplasty is generally considered safe, with a low risk of complications. However, as with any medical procedure, there are risks, including bleeding, infection, and damage to the artery.

Will I feel anything during the procedure?

You may feel some pressure or discomfort when the catheter is inserted, but you shouldn’t feel any pain during the angioplasty itself, as you’ll be under anesthesia.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, but this may vary depending on the complexity of the blockage.

Coronary angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can effectively improve blood flow to the heart and relieve symptoms associated with coronary artery disease. If you or a loved one are experiencing symptoms of CAD, discussing the possibility of coronary angioplasty with a healthcare provider can help determine the best course of action for managing your condition and improving your heart health.
